April 2005

AGENDA for APRIL 16, 2005

Two paradigm-shifting technologies:
1) Nanosolar of Palo Alto: Spray on solar array which can turn any surface, even cloth, into a photon-to-electron converter. Anything built, buildings, vehicles, sails, clothes, can be turned into a solar electricity generator.
2) The Solar Hydrogen Co: Dr. Oakes has introduced the photoelectrochemical process where nano-sized photon semiconductors convert sunlight to localized electric currents which will dissociate nearby water molecules, providing direct sun-to-hydrogen (and -oxygen) production. No electrolyser required. High gas prices have hope permeating the solar hydrogen community! People are being forced to wake up.

1. Greetings and Introductions: Chapter President, John Gotthold, greets all attendees and asks each attendee to state their name and a short synopsis of their background and what they hope to learn by attending the meeting. 10 min.

2. Technology update: PEM electrolyser designs, can the system be cost effective. Design concepts revealed.

Storage breakthrough - Korea: Organic metallic nano particles in water can be pumped full of hydrogen. Once the water is frozen into ice the hydrogen is trapped. As the ice melts the hydrogen is released. Joe six pack will love the hydrogen cars of the future; they will come with a built in beer cooler.

3. Transportation: VECTRIX fuel cell scooter being readied for production. ENV bike, light weight motorcycle, looking for a manufacturer. Is the future of affordable transportation on two wheels?

4. Hydrogen production: What technology will win in the race to produce low cost hydrogen? The US already produces 9,000,000 tons of hydrogen per year, almost all used for oil refining and industrial chemical production. Estimates are that a viable hydrogen economy, utilizing the hydrogen efficiently through fuel cells, can operate on 40,000,000 tons per year.

5. Hydrogen Highway: The state of Michigan joins the list of states proposing hydrogen highways.

6. Video: more to come if we get it in time.
