NOTES: Three topics in each area. Be prepared for discussion. What are the really important things we can do to help hydrogen? Astronomers find ninety percent more universe with better measurement. That means there is ninety percent more hydrogen available!!!
Greetings and Introductions: Chapter President, John Gotthold, greets all attendees and asks each attendee to state their name and a short synopsis of their background and what they hope to learn by attending the meeting. 10 minutes.
1. Hydrogen Transportation: ITM selling portable hydrogen refueling station in Europe! EPA includes CO2 accounting for battery and hybrid cars. New car stickers will show how much CO2 and nitrous oxide are emitted over the life of the car. BMW fuel cell hybrid!
2. Hydrogen Technology: Titanium leaves to make hydrogen directly from sunlight and water. New robust hydrogen detector with solid electrolyte. New way to split water - WITH A VIRUS. Direct plant bio-electricity! Nitrogen doped carbon nano tubes - a better, much cheaper fuel cell catalyst! Lithium-air batteries at three times energy density - they don't carry oxygen. Silicon based lithium-ion battery anode. Can it be used in fuel cells?
3. Hydrogen Business: Energy storage systems for grid leveling are growing rapidly, mostly battery storage. Will the grid store its excess wind and solar energy in the batteries of cars? Makes sense. Charging up at night at the lowest rates, then feeding some back to the grid in the peak use time of the day at a higher price. It may wear out the battery faster! No hydrogen storage yet in sight. UQM starting production of CODA electric drives. Fuelcell Energy - production license to Korea.. SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) releases first hydrogen refueling standard. Fuel cell industry estimates 700,000 jobs over next ten years. Hydrogen co-operatives in gated communities.
4. Government Support to Hydrogen: London hydrogen highway for 2012 Olympics. EPA auto fuel standards will include carbon emissions and Congress is gearing up to tax them.
5. Global Warming and Oil Depletion: Oil speculators push price near $90 per barrel with the idea that a rebounding economy will outrun supplies, even though there are 6 mbpd available but not currently pumping. No current oil shortage as conservation and alternative growth of 2.6% per year masks global depletion of 2.5% per year (IEA). Global solar up 44% in 2009.
6. AHASVC Certificate: Are we ready to publish the certificate? Discuss co-operation with AHA-NW for expanding web presence.
7. HySolGenics: Breakthrough!! The balancer system works!! Demonstration at AHASVC next month!!!
