AGENDA for NOVEMBER 20, 2004
None of the exciting science developments of the last several years have resulted in affordable hydrogen-based products. Niches for fuel cell power plants for telecommunications back power supplies, airport equipment and people transporters, industrial lift trucks, and transportation buses have started to develop. Industrial Molten Carbonate megawatt and Phosphoric Acid 200 kW power plants have started to find a market. Other than educational toys, nothing in fuel cells is yet affordable and available to the consumer. The year 2005 looks like the breakout year.
1. Greetings and Introductions: Meeting chaired by Clyde Stanley (Chapter President, John Gotthold, is on vacation in Japan).
2. Technology update: Low cost membrane. Hoku Scientific, ITM Power, and Polyfuel have all signed agreements for developing production facilities. Their affordable membranes are expected to be available in 2006.
3. American Hydrogen Association- Silicon Valley Chapter- Local initiative: Still no reply from the City of Sunnyvale. Time to go the public meetings and ask the question to get it on the record. Perhaps we need to offer to run against the head-in-the-sand incumbents.
4. Consumer hydrogen power: Fuel cell hydrogen powered motor scooters from Honda, Yamaha, and Vectrix will hit the streets in 2005 and 2006. Power supplies from methanol fuel cells will be available in 2005 for cell phones, laptops, and other portable electronic devices.
5. Solar Hydrogen Energy System: Complete listing of all required components for putting together a complete Solar Hydrogen lifestyle are being listed on the www.ahasvc.org website.
6. Video: Walter Gyger - class on hydrogen and fuel cells by Roy McAlister
