NOTES: Decision made at June meeting to do hydrogen product reviews. What other projects does AHASVC want to undertake? Vegas bets - run out of oil and force change or run out of planet first. Climate to warm AT DOUBLE RATE. Kuna Indians leaving Perlas Islands. They have lived there for 10,000 years but now storms put two feet of water over the islands.
Greetings and Introductions: Chapter President, John Gotthold, greets all attendees and asks each attendee to state their name and a short synopsis of their background and what they hope to learn by attending the meeting. 10 minutes.
1. Hydrogen Transportation: Kia to sell 10,000 fuel cell cars by 2015! UTC fuel cell buses complete 7,000 hours of service with original fuel cell. RiverSimple to test fuel cell cars in Leicester and produce 5,000 per year in 2013. It’s only HHO but hydrogen helped power a Baja racer, including turning up side down. Fuel cell people mover. Hydro Kultur does 310 miles on ¼ kg hydrogen. ACTA hydrogen boat. Army to add fuel cells to tanks. The WHALE hydrogen blimp. 300 mph car! 600 Prius plug-ins tested worldwide. Boeing Phantom Eye UAV - fuel cell and four days aloft.
2. Hydrogen Technology: Amonnia borane - 19% hydrogen - easy release catalyst is the key. Nanoporous materials for hydrogen storage. SunPower claims 24.2% on solar cell. Innovalight thin film solar cell at 19%. Scandium in SOFC. Bury-able fuel cell system. Burying them makes them cheaper? Noise bent fibers for nano-electrolysis! Hydrogen proton smaller than previously believed (no wonder we can’t see them)! Carbon nanotubes and nitrogen for oxygen side catalyst.
3. Hydrogen Business: NRG - flat rate for unlimited charges for electric cars? Underground coal gasification to alkaline fuel cells to electricity for buildings - Australia. Westport hit $17 per share. They do natural gas and hydrogen injection conversions. Solar industry to do 10 gigawatts annually by 2015. Hydrogenics doing grid stabilization electrolysis. Conoco-Phillips to revitalize Storagetek site for fuel cells.
4. Government Support to Hydrogen: Germany - full alternate energy report. Goal is carbon free by 2050. Griffith University solar high-rise - Australia. California to demand 30% renewables by 2020. Canada to shutter 33 coal fired power plants by 2025. TVA to buy renewables.
5. Global Warming and Oil Depletion: May and first half 2010 global land and ocean temperatures 1.24F above the 20th century average of 58.6F. It is not possible to deny global warming any more! The only question is how fast it is going to proceed. Arctic now near climate tipping point!
6. AHASVC: Besides product reviews, what does AHASVC want to do? How do we answer questions on hydrogen disasters? Interaction with AHA central and NW - how do we best support the other chapters? AHA Mission: "Develop renewable energy technologies necessary to build a Solar Hydrogen Civilization where every individual from every nation, community, and household has an opportunity for sustainable prosperity without pollution."
7. Hydrogen Fueled Product Specifications Review: 200 hours test results. M2 20 kW hydrogen refueling station spec sheet. Marketing questionnaire - what do potential hydrogen fuel customers want? Purity? Volume? Rapid-refill receptacles?
