NOTES: The portfolio approach, wherein $50 billion of government and $150 billion of private money goes into biofuels, electric cars and hydrogen cars and high mileage conventional cars is the most likely scenario to put 2,000,000 non-oil cars on the road by 2015. That approach will also do the most to reduce greenhouse gases. Technological hydrogen breakthroughs are abounding but are still years away from full commercialization. Geoffrey Ballard, the Founder of Ballard Energy Systems and the first leader to make fuel cells viable for transportation, has died.
