An alternative to placing a solar array on top of or built into a building roof is to employ a free standing solar array with active tracking so that it can accurately follow the Sun.

The third alternative is to utilize a concentrator array which has a focus cover which focuses the sunlight onto a high intensity solar cell.

Follow the links to the solar array listing page. Listed here are several companies engaged in installing the various types of solar roofs and free standing solar arrays.
