THE WINDS OF DENMARK

Wind has always been Denmark.

Legend has it,

in the deep Middle Ages,

the national banner

was first seen by the King

as it floated gently on the breeze

down from Heaven itself.

The flag still flutters in the winds of Denmark,

white cross

on vibrant red background,

honored symbol of

a forward looking nation.

Denmark first put its winds to work

long centuries ago

with vast bladed mills

no Quixote ever challenged,

blessing many of Europe’s

finest farms.

Today, this small Nordic land

is worldwide leader

of advanced

wind power turbines.

Denmark sets its unique goals,

for the middle of this century,

to run all its whole society,

the first country to do so

on renewable resources

and hydrogen fuel cells.

Congratulations,

and ask when the Stars and Stripes

will at last follow suit?
