Hydrogen fuel cell automobiles

Eight major automobile companies are developing and testing hydrogen fuel cell powered automobiles. Below are pictures of the test fleet versions that are building up millions of miles of on road testing around the world. Fuel cell autos have been driven around the world (Daimler F-Cell) and all around Europe (     ) and are slated to become the core of municipal fleets in Denmark, Sweden and Germany in 2013.

Honda Clarity

Hyundai ix35

Nissan Terra

General Motors SM

Toyota SVC-R

Tata Safari Storme

The leading vehicle manufacturer in introducing fuel cell powered automobiles is Hyundai Motor Company of South Korea. The ix35 is slated for production of one thousand units in 2013-2014 with introduction into municipal fleets in northern Europe.

The rest of the manufactures are aiming for introduction in 2014-2015, with mass production beginning in 2016-2017.

The auto companies have made great advances in lowering the cost, size and weight of their fuel cell stacks and their vehicles can travel from 250 to 400 miles on a single charge of hydrogen fuel.

The wide introduction of fuel cell automobiles in 2015 will be one of the most interesting automotive competitions of all time. The winners will have to produce  beautiful cars that run silently and produce zero pollution and perform as well as the best of the historical gasoline powered versions and are affordable.

AHASVC will review the results of the early tests and try to determine which manufacturer is doing the best job of producing the clean and silent running fuel cell cars for the future.
